Participants will be taken through the process of marking out, roughing out and finishing a relief stone carving using hand tools. This workshop is suitable for beginners who wish to develop skills in stone carving. You will work on a design in Bath stone. We will also look at where to purchase different stones and tools, chisel sharpening and some of the health and safety issues to do with stone carving.

A two-day workshop teaching participants how to mark out, rough out and finish a Green Man design in Bath stone. The course will give people the opportunity to either carve their own design or copy carve one using a template. The course will also cover carving techniques, sharpening and look at where to buy tools and stone. By the end of the two days participants will be able to take away a finished carving.

From earliest evidence to more recent craft revival, we look at how soap has developed including exploring the perfumes used in soapmaking. Participants will then go on to make hot processed soft soap, pure olive Castile soap and Tudor inspired herb wash-balls to take away. The day is a mixture of hands-on activities and talks. By the end of the day participants will have a thorough working knowledge of soap making and its history.

A one-day course for those new to stone carving. During the day you’ll learn how to carve your own monogram or house number in stone using hand tools. You’ll be shown how to draw out designs on paper, transfer and carve them into the stone using a hammer and chisel. You’ll also look at different finishing techniques for the lettering and stone.
