Weald and Downland Living Museum Ticket Portal

Writing poetry workshop

We will use the houses and exhibits of the Weald & Downland Living Museum as inspirational source material to generate our own new writing. We will find links between our own lives and those of the past. We will discuss some appropriate published poems, try out observational poetry exercises in relation to the fascinating artefacts, landscape and houses of the Museum. We will focus on ideas of the hearth, sustenance, building and home making.

The emphasis will be on how observational writing develops a metaphoric power. Creative methods will include: discussion of poems, observational writing tasks, poetry experiments and some gentle celebratory sharing of work at the end of the day.

Given the rich stimuli available at the museum, this course could suit someone starting to write, or more experienced writers who are looking for fresh subjects or methods. We will use new materials and ideas and so previous participants are welcome to come again for a new writing experience. Participants should expect to leave with draft material for development into poems.
