Illuminated Lettering Workshop
During this workshop you will find out how a medieval scribe produced the beautiful illuminated letters used in manuscripts of the medieval period. You will be creating your own name in illuminated text on a piece of parchment using traditional methods and materials.
As a trainee scribe you will start by making your own quill pen and then mixing pigments in shells to create the bright colours. After practising writing your name using the script letters you will prepare the parchment ready to draw your initial letter design, then apply the paint and gold leaf to give it the finished illuminated effect.
All materials will be provided.
